Promises, Promises- Each revolution makes promises that are lies. From the industrial revolution to the information revolution, each one has extolled the virtues of more leasure time or cheaper goods. But, instead, we end up with less free time and just more consumption of "cheap goods" (read "crap"). It is happening again and this time the stakes are even higher. Of course, so are the promises. This time they are around long tails and globalization. There is great potential and great hope, but there is also the possibility of a new form of slavery like the world has never seen before. We will explore these topics in this group, beginning with the works or the Arts & Crafts movement that offered an alternative to the industrial revolution, how the A&C movement failed and how we might learn from those lessons.
