Canadian Singer Jonathan Estabrooks, hailed by the New York Times as 'a robust baritone' is equally at home on both the concert and opera stage having performed in Canada, the United States and Europe. Prominent operatic roles have included: Tarquinius in The Rape of Lucretia, Shaunard in La Boheme, Belcore in L’elisir D’amore, Papageno in The Magic Flute, Antonio in Le Nozze di Figaro and Dr. Cajus in Die Lustigen Weiber von Windsor. Most recently, he appeared as Tarquinius in Benjamin Britten’s The Rape of Lucretia with the Juilliard Opera Theater. In December 2008, he was a featured artist for the American Premiere of ‘Sierra’ by Robert Erickson, performed as part of the 20th Anniversary of the Juilliard FOCUS Festival. He also premiered ‘Upon the King’, a contemporary vocal piece with the Juilliard Orchestra. Mr. Estabrooks he has been Baritone soloist in the Fauré Requiem, Duruflé Requiem and Brahms Requiem as well as Handel’s Messiah while also appearing as a guest artist with recital series’, choirs and chamber Orchestras in Toronto, Ottawa and Montreal. Mr. Estabrooks has performed with the National Arts Center Orchestra under the baton of Pinchas Zukerman, with the Isreali Chamber Orchestra under Paul Nadler of the Metropolitan Opera and has sung for dignitaries including the Governor General of Canada, Prime Minister and President Bill Clinton. Locally he has been heard with The Cantata Singers of Ottawa, The Aldeburgh Connection Series, Coro Vivo and CAMMAC. Upcoming engagements include an appearance with the Kennett Symphony Pops in Philadelphia and the role of Pelleas in L’Impressions de Pelléas by Claude Debussy to be performed in Tel Aviv and Montreal. In his spare time, Jonathan continues to explore the relationship between live performance art and the visual media. He has created feature length and short films, designing projections and shorts for WNYC Radio, New York Festival of Song, Schola Cantorum on Hudson, James Conlon, James Marvel and Robin Guarino. He is also Vice-President of the M.O.S.A.I.C. Organization, a New York-based initiative designed at encouraging collaborative art as a means for better one’s self and the community at large through performance, education and outreach.
